- I would like to introduce Virgin Islands National Park archeology and the Friends of the Park. For those of you who have been to St. John and met members of the archeology team, I hope your experience was informative and enjoyable. If this is your introduction to St. John archeology, welcome. This blog will help you learn some of the island's history and keep current on our archeology. Park archeologist Ken Wild heads Virgin Islands National Park archeology. Ken has worked for the park service for thirty years, having conducted investigations in most of the parks of the Southeast Region. On St. John he is known for his investigations at Cinnamon Bay and his work on improving understanding of the region's petroglyphs. Ken is aided by interns who are provided for by the Friends of the Park. This non-profit organization contributes a stipend to interns. The park provides interns with a place to stay at Cinnamon Bay Campground. Through constant fundraising, the Friends of the Park continue to generate the funds to help us preserve the island's cultural history, as well as the natural history of the island.
